I’m a 24-year-old working my first job out of college in Corporate American, with a propensity for activism and justice. I spent some time in pre-Arab Spring Tuninsia, and currently live in the bustling metropolitan of Jersey City. When thinking of my title, I tried to think of what was important to me, what I wanted this blog to be about. I thought of my independence. I pride myself on being able to take care of myself, in many ways, and for being on my own. I have full control over what decisions I make and I wouldn’t want it any other way. That’s not to say I don’t ask for help when I need it, because everyone gets by with a little help from their friends. I know people my age who are still controlled by their parents because they hold the credit card. I know people who, while they may be financially independent, their main priority in life is the big party next weekend. While I’m certainly not opposed to working hard and playing hard, I feel that being intellectually, culturally and politically aware makes one more interesting, and it is vital in our world. Enjoy my ramblings!

Katie,
Your blog looks really cool. I’ve always been interested in your opinions because even if we don’t agree on something, I know you you are really strong in your beliefs and that you can definitely articulate your points really well. I’ve always liked reading your stuff in the Wire too. I will bookmark this. I hope your summer’s going great in Africa!
